Joe has links to a large archive of shows so you can view many of our previous shows. Political Mondays with Peter Kleeman and Joe Thomas has been a weekly show at 6:45 pm on TV-19 since last July. That is about forty shows.

I invite you to tune in to hear our comments on political issues of the day. The 50-year water plan was yesterday's topic and we will likely be addressing the Republican Primary for the Fifth District U.S. Congressional Seat next Monday.

Political Mondays segment for Sept. 14, 2009 now online.

Although the six o'clock news on WCAV TV-19 was preempted by the CBS broadcast of the US Open Men's Tennis Final, Political Mondays was shown on the local ABC station WVAW TV-16. This is one of the benefits of both network affiliates being part of the Charlottesville Newsplex. Last weeks Political Mondays was an abbreviated segment due to US Open Tennis and not posted online. The topic was the President Obama address on education. Joe Thomas thought the speech was fine, but that it shouldn't have been mandatory. I pointed out it never was mandatory, and that I thought having the president speak directly to school students was a terrific opportunity. I wish all students had the opportunity to see the speech live - or at least on tape delay - followed by classroom discussion.

Political Mondays with Peter Kleeman and Joe Thomas on TV-19 WCAV

Yesterday's WCAV TV-19 airing of Political Monday is now online. Below is the material posted online by WCAV. The video is about 5 minutes long - so check it out now if you have 5 minutes.

I questioned the desirability of the Commonwealth of Virginia contracting out major government responsibilities - in particular all of the information technology work to Northrup-Grumman. Joe Thomas indicated that he believes private industry does just just about everything better than government. Make up your own mind by viewing the video.

One interesting newspaper article indicated that about $100 Million was anticipated as savings from the Northrup-Grumman contract, but that in fact Information Technology costs were $6 Million higher than when the Commonwealth did it. I believe contracting is a great way to get specific tasks done, but contracting out major government responsibilities like management of government information is not desirable. I was invited to be part of a revised format for "Political Mondays" on WCAV TV-19. Local radio talk-show host Joe Thomas (WCHV AM-1260) had been the sole participant until the July 20 broadcast. The new format is to have both Joe Thomas and I offer a topic for discussion and the other person an opportunity to add their thoughts on the subject. Rather than explain how this worked out, I invite you to watch the short (around 5 minute) segments currently online. Dan Schutte of TV-19 News moderates the conversation - and on August 3, Dan Schutte posed the issue of the Federal Cash for Clunkers program in place of my "Funding for Transportation in Virginia" topic because of time consideration. Joe Thomas invited me to have the discussion on funding transportation at 7:00 am today on the Joe Thomas "In-The-Morning" show.

I find it a challenge to get to the heart of a major issue in a minute or two, but I hope I get better at this with practice.
